A Regenerative Strategy for Desert Climates in the time of Climate Change — Vallée Dades Mgoune, Morocco 2025
Curio for a Cause
"Curio for a Cause" is an integral part of our mission.
It lets us (and you!) support meaningful social and environmental initiatives, like The Rose Oasis Project, which benefits the community of women farmers growing Damask roses, spices, and herbs in the Vallée Dades Mgoune of Morocco.
“Your land for growing is in small parcels, but its significance is much greater than the hectare size. That is because it is the ‘laboratory of the future’ for how communities everywhere will need to grow food in a hot, dry world.”
-Gary Nabhan, US Ethnobotanist, speaking of the women farmers of the Vallée Dades Mgoune, Morocco. February, 2025

What is the Rose Oasis Project?
The project benefits the community of women farmers growing Damask roses, spices, and herbs in the Vallée Dades Mgoune of Morocco. Since 2020 we’ve been directly sourcing culinary rose products from a women-run co-op in Morocco. In 2024, Claire travelled there directly to learn about what issues they're facing and to make the mini-doc.

Climate Change on Damask Roses
These culinary roses, grown 100% organically, are at risk of disappearing to the effects of climate change. Drought and unpredictable weather threaten this plant that has become essential to the livelihoods of women in this valley.

Help Us Regenerate the Oasis
By regenerating the soil and introducing water-saving technology and a poly-culture, the Rose Oasis Project serves as a model for desert agricultural communities around the world.
