This crowd-pleasing breakfast is mostly made ahead, which makes for stress-free holiday mornings. And, it’s not just for holidays — it’s always a good breakfast option!
Ingredients
-
1 loaf challah bread (about 16 ounces), cut into 1-inch chunks
- 1 large, tart apple (or 2 medium), such as Honeycrisp, cored and cut into ½-inch pieces
- 8 eggs
- 2 cups milk
- ¼ cup brown sugar
- ¼ teaspoon sea salt
- 4 tablespoons Molasses Cookie Sugar
- Maple syrup, for serving
Directions
Coat a 9”x13” baking dish with butter or baking spray. Place the cubed bread and apples in the baking dish and use your hands to toss them together.
- Crack the eggs into a large mixing bowl and whisk them until smooth. Add the milk, brown sugar, and salt, along with 2 tablespoons of the Molasses Cookie Sugar, and whisk until completely combined.
- Pour the egg mixture over the bread mixture, being sure to saturate every piece of bread. Cover and let sit for at least 4 hours or overnight (in the fridge).
- When ready to bake, preheat the oven to 350°F. Sprinkle the remaining 2 tablespoons of Molasses Cookie Sugar over the top and bake until it is slightly crispy and baked through in the middle, 50-60 minutes.
- Serve warm with maple syrup.
