About Food For Free

Food For Free is one of the oldest food rescue organizations in the US. What started as a few friends with vehicles banding together in Cambridge in the1980s has grown to an organization that moves nearly eight million pounds of food per year within Eastern Massachusetts. 

Using logistics, innovation, and partnerships with donors, volunteers and over 100 organizations, Food For Free brings nutritious food to 150,000 people each year. Food For Free programs help to meet a variety of needs, such as bringing delicious produce, proteins and staples to seniors and people living with disabilities, ensuring that students have access to food not only on weekdays, but on the weekends too, and free food markets that emphasize choice, one of the best ways to increase access to culturally familiar foods for community members.
