Banana Sugar was created in Cambodia after the Khmer Rouge regime in 1979, when access to basic groceries like sugar was scarce. A family innovated by using the abundant local bananas to create a sugar substitute for their ill grandmother, boiling banana juice to produce a sweetener with a unique flavor. Over time, this evolved into a family enterprise that embodies perseverance and creativity amidst hardship.
A better brown sugar! Cambodia's version of maple sugar, palm sugar is made from the hand-harvested sap of the Palmyra palm in a centuries-old tradition. This rare, sustainable sugar is deeply flavorful, with nutty notes and a low glycemic index, making it excellent for everyday use.
