We sourced the pure asafoetida (also known as hing) in collaboration with Mina Sahar Saffron, a woman-owned Afghan spice company. Finding pure hing of this quality is not an easy feat as it is frequently ground together with wheat fillers. We are proud to offer a high quality, pure and directly sourced house-blended option. With an intense aroma of garlic, onion and funk (sometimes called "devils dung"!!), this spice can be off-putting at first. But power through and your taste buds and tummy will thank you.
We mix the ground asafoetida nuggets with Indian turmeric, making it easier to cook with. The raw spice starts off as a hard resin, and you only need a tiny pinch for its incredible umami impact and digestive-aiding properties. Adds depth and savory richness to beans, gravies, rice and vegetable dishes, and may be the key to unlocking that luscious depth of flavor you crave from your favorite Indian restaurant.
