Turmeric-Honey Elixir
Makes about 1 cup.
Sweet and tart, this syrup is especially delicious when made with our single-origin Costa Rican turmeric, which has a gorgeous floral note and brilliant color. The syrup is great drizzled on grilled fruit or roasted root vegetables, used as the base for a salad dressing, or stirred into seltzer for a refreshing ‘soda.’
½ cup honey
½ cup raw apple cider vinegar
1 lemon, juice and zest
2 teaspoons Costa Rican turmeric
Big pinch freshly ground black pepper
Put the ingredients into a jar or bottle with a tight-fitting lid. Shake until blended. (‘Tight-fitting’ is super important — you don’t want to splash turmeric honey around your kitchen or person as the syrup is sticky and it stains!) Store in the fridge and shake the syrup before using because the turmeric settles as the syrup sits.
Variation on a theme: You can substitute a tablespoon of our Golden Milk Turmeric Latte Mix for the ground turmeric. It includes some ginger and cardamom which are lovely additions to the flavor profile. The directions are essentially the same, but we recommend letting the mixture infuse for an hour or two after the initial shake. After infusing, strain the elixir into a clean container and store in the fridge.
