Kandy Spiced Haroset

Makes about 3 cups. Recipe from Leslie Goldenberg.

Leslie is an adventuresome home cook, expert knitter, and good friend to Curio Spice. May this haroset remind you that even a bitter experience can offer unexpected moments of sweetness!

½ cup walnuts
½ cup whole or sliced almonds
⅓ cup hazelnuts (preferably with skin removed)
2–3 tablespoons sugar (to taste)
1 large apple, peeled and grated on large box grater
¾ cup chopped dates
Pinch of salt
¾ –1 teaspoon Kandy Spice
2–4 tablespoons orange juice
2–4 tablespoons red wine

Matzoh for serving

Put the nuts and sugar into the bowl of a food processor fitted with the metal chopping blade. Pulse until the nuts are coarsely ground. Transfer to a large bowl and add the grated apples, dates, salt and Kandy Spice. Add the smaller amount of orange juice and red wine, adding more only as needed if the mixture is too dry. Taste; add more sugar or Kandy Spice per your desire!

Serve in your prettiest bowl with Matzoh.
