Treat yourself to an iced hojicha latte at home. Our Japanese Hojicha powder brings its toasty, caramelly flavors to the party and your latte will be coffee-shop delicious but not too sweet. If you’re avoiding dairy, substitute any plain plant-based milk.
Notes: The ideal water temperature for brewing hojicha is 175° – 185° F but here you can simply use very hot tap water. A small whisk is handy for mixing the hojicha with the water. You can use more sweetener or omit it to suit your taste.
Ingredients
-
1 teaspoon (1g) hojicha powder
-
2 teaspoons (9g) sugar or maple syrup
-
1¼ cup (310g) whole milk
-
Ice
Directions
In a small bowl or teacup, briskly whisk the hojicha powder and 2 tablespoons (28g) very hot water until well blended. Add the sugar or maple syrup and whisk for a few seconds longer.
Put ice in a tall tumbler, pour the milk over the ice, then add the tea mixture while stirring. Take a sip and enjoy!
Recipe Note
If you have a hand held frother, try frothing the hojicha-sugar mixture and milk together before adding any ice!
